Wendy's Adventure
Life is an adventure with all kinds of fun challenges to live, love, laugh through & figure out how to overcome. I'm thankful & blessed to be born without arms & legs on December 14, 1979! My parents raised me to be independent because they did not want to shelter me from the world. My physical limitations are not that limited. I taught myself how to do things on my own.
At 15, I got my 1st. job as a telemarketer @ First Class Copiers, & then Skate-O-Rama as a Floor Guard/Greeter. At 17, I quit both jobs, & started |
working for Downey YMCA; Front Desk. After a year working, they honored me with an Employee Excellence Award! At 19, I was appointed Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Commission on Disabilities & proudly represented Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor: Don Knabe for 18 years as their 1st. Youth Commissioner, then President, Vice President & so on! Then in 2001, Downey Soroptimist Club presented me an award for Women of Distinction for all my work in LA County! In 2012, I won the Jerry Stein Independent Living Award presented by the Disabled Resource Center, Inc. for extraordinary achievements as a person with a disability. In 2016, Lakewood/Long Beach Soroptimist Club presented me with Live Your Dream Award!
On 12/20/02 I received my converted 2002 Chrysler Town & Country van, & became a licensed driver with a perfect score for my behind wheel test @ DMV on 12/27/02! In 1998, I graduated from Warren High School & attended college at LBCC & CSULB; majoring in Communication Studies. On 5/21/16, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services with a concentration in family & children & then in March 2018, I received my Masters in Psychology!
Besides God, family, work, & community activities, let’s not forget my personal life. I started dating when I was 13, nothing too serious. I just wanted to have fun! At 19, I met a guy & we were together for 7 years. In 2004, we got married & then I gave birth to our daughter Kaylin on 5/26/05! Kaylin is beautiful, athletic, fun, smart, & a wonderful blessing! On 3/01/06 I left my ex husband because he was abusive. After 2 long years of Criminal Court; we divorced. I had to find out the hard way, that Love Should Not Hurt!
On 9/17/09, I started dating my 2nd. husband & we got married 6/14/10. I gave birth to our son Jeremy on 05/04/11! Jeremy is athletic, handsome, smart, & an adventurous blessing! After 9 years, my husband turned out to be someone I thought I knew... but really I had no clue. My kids & I are safely healing & moving forward! Life has lots of challenges that we face & it is up to us; of how we are going to deal with it. Whether we let it defeat us... or we lift our eyes through the pain, & proceed on to a much healthier, brighter, & joyful future!
In April 2019, I Thankfully gained a very special Family! Blessed with a new partner named Jeremy Sr. with lots of kids, & we've been "Blended & Blessed" ever since. Teamwork, Communication, & Boundaries makes the dream work Fun.
I have featured in the LA Times, Press-Telegram, Ch. 4 NBC News, The Downey Patriot, Lakewood TV, & many magazine articles; in the USA, the United Kingdom & in a Korean English textbook; talking about my life while reaching out to help others as a Motivational Speaker/Mentor.
After many requests, I've been writing an autobiography. I’m praying that I will have my book written & published soon! I got baptized April 2010! I'm thankful for my salvation! No one is perfect, that is why we live, love, laugh one day at a time; with a forgiving heart.
"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer & supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there's any excellence & if there's anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Philippians 4:6-8
My kids & I love the Lord through evangelizing, helping the hurting & lost people of the world; with the message of hope, & plan of Jesus Christ.
